Shelter Home construction for abused women in Ongole

For many women escaping abuse, Swadhaar Gruha is the first place where they can breathe freely, sleep without fear, and begin to rebuild their lives. Within its walls, survivors find not only shelter but also dignity, solidarity, and the hope of a safer future.

But this sanctuary rests on fragile foundations. Government support is meagre—barely enough to cover the rent-and every month the shelter must stretch its resources to keep the doors open. The challenges don’t end there. Families of the women, unwilling to accept their independence, often show up to intimidate and disrupt their recovery. Neighbours too have grown increasingly hostile, treating the shelter as a nuisance rather than a refuge, and their opposition has now culminated in an eviction notice.

The threat is not just to a building-it is to the lives and futures of women who have already risked everything to escape violence. Without Swadhaar Gruha, many will have nowhere else to turn. What should be a place of safety is now in danger of being taken away, and the women who found courage here stand at risk of being silenced once again.
